The holiday season is a time of great joy, but also a time of struggle and hardship for many. As the Shamrock Animal Fund moves into its third year of operation we look back at the hundreds of animals and families we have touched with financial help, advice, advocacy and care.  We also remember our wonderful dog of nearly 19 years Shamrock for which the fund is named.

It was our caring for our aging Shamrock that inspired us to find a way to help others pay for their veterinary care.  It was in the waiting rooms for veterinary exams, tests and surgeries where we witnessed the need first hand.  That's how the Shamrock Animal Fund discovered its mission of helping to pay for veterinary care for animals in need that have owners with financial limitations.

IMG_5977_1.JPG We went more than 18 months without a dog in our home until early this fall when Bentley found us.  He had been taken off the streets of Syracuse by animal control and brought to the Dewitt Animal Hospital which contracts as the city shelter. They guessed Bentley to be somewhere between three and five years old. He seems to be a poodle/Bichon mix.   It doesn't really matter what breed. He has brought energy, vigor and warmth to our home.

Dog lovers know that no one pet can take the place of the one before. They're all different. Shamrock was regal, intelligent and handsome.  Bentley is friendly, adventurous and powerful.

During this holiday season please consider adopting a pet at the Dewitt Animal Hospital, the SPCA, the Humane Association, Wanderer's Rest or any of the shelters in Central New York like Rome, Auburn, Cortland or Ithaca.

The Shamrock Animal Fund would also appreciate donations. You can use them as gifts to friends and loved ones.  Our supporters mean so much to us and even more to the homes where animals have been helped. Thank you.

After watching the numerous photos and posts about these two marvelous dogs, I had to contribute to the cause. They display so much happiness and love to a home, and Matt you exemplify your love through this fund and helping others.

I would love to help in any way I can.  Since my husband is allergic to dogs, I try to interact as much as I can on the outside with as many dogs as I can. I do this thru volunteering and support thru donations to many rescue and support organizations.

It's my pleasure to make this donation to Shamrock Animal Fund.  Sandi
