(Syracuse, NY) - The Shamrock Animal Fund honored three veterinarians with the Diane Smith Service Award at its Fourth Annual Shamrock’s Celebration, March 23, 2013. The 2013 honorees were Dr. Ann Harris of Manlius, Dr. Elizabeth Berliner of Ithaca and Dr. Marcia Ziegler-Alexander of Fayetteville who are recognized for their dedication to animal welfare.
Dr. Berliner is director of clinical programs for Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Berliner is being honored for her expert counsel in planning the Healthy Pet Clinics and for connecting Cornell and its students to the Clinics.
Dr. Harris is a veterinarian at Rockacres Veterinary Hospital in Manlius, which she opened in 2001. Dr. Harris also serves on the board of The Shamrock Animal Fund, offering valued advice and counsel and has supported the Healthy Pet Clinics.
Dr. Ziegler-Alexander is a veterinarian atStack Hospital for Pets in Fayetteville which she has co-owned for 16 years. Dr. Ziegler-Alexander has been a leader among veterinarians with the Healthy Pet Clinics showing commitment to offering low-cost veterinary care to pet owners in need. She has also assisted with Shamrock Animal Fund cases.
Co-founders Matt Mulcahy and Jamie Pomilio-Mulcahy are proud to honor some of the best veterinarians in the CNY community. The Diane Smith Service Award was named after the longtime director of finance at Fairmount Animal Hospital and an early supporter of The Shamrock Animal Fund.
(Syracuse, NY) - More than 300 supporters of the Shamrock Animal Fund packed a state of the art renovated factory warehouse in Syracuse for a energetic fundraiser on March 23rd. The drone of the Emerald City Pipe Band reached the rafters entertaining the crowd as the program began. Guests shopped the silent auction, tasted from the carving stations and mashed potato bar and enjoyed beer and wine as they mingled among friends.
A music video highlighting the work of the vets, pets and volunteers of the Healthy Pet Clinics brought smiles and applause. Poignant personal stories by the veterinarians being honored with the Diane Smith Service Award left many in the room wiping tears away during several emotional moments.
Generous supporters inside King & King's building bid during the Live Auction of a trip to NY City on a MetroAir Charter and a basketball signed by the Syracuse University men's team and Hall of Fame Coach Jim Boeheim. A video telling the story of a pet owner named Velma and her dog Jasmine provided the inspiration for the bidders to contribute.
It was a record setting year for attendance and donations to the Shamrock Animal Fund. Co-Founder Matt Mulcahy expressed his gratitude on behalf of his wife and Co-Founder Jamie Pomilio-Mulcahy, "It was an extraordinary night. We are honored to receive such support from the Central New York community. It is remarkable how a small idea can grow into something that touches so many people and their pets. Thank you."
